In order to promote exchange between Brazil and the 28 countries part of the European Union (EU) and also the 15 countries associated to Horizon 2020, the Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions (MSCA) programme offers a special grant to support capacity building and strengthen scientific relations at global level: the Global Fellowships.
Aimed at fostering scientific excellence the MSCA, as a European Union funding programme under the Horizon 2020, provides grants for researchers at different stages of their careers.
Through the Global Fellowships, educational and research institutions located in third countries, such as Brazil, may invite European researchers or those from countries associated to Horizon 2020 Programme to carry out a scientific exchange in their countries. This specific grant only covers scholarships for PhDs and postdocs.
Once in Brazil, these European researchers will develop projects, deepen research and share knowledge with Brazilian researchers, strengthening thus their social networking and enhancing exchange of experiences.
The grant is for a period of 24 to 36 months, being 12 or 24 months of dedication to activities at the Brazilian host institution, followed by 12 months at the researcher’s home institution at the European Union or Associated Countries.
The foreign researcher receives a monthly scholarship to cover his expenses in the destination country. The costs with necessary resources for implementing actions of scientific communication in the host institution is intended for the researcher's home institution.
MSCA is receiving applications for the Global Fellowships call this year, until September, 14th. After informal contact between researchers, the foreign scientist, next to his home institution, needs to present a project identifying institutions of interest to do the exchange in Brazil. A new Call of MSCA Global Fellowships is expected also during 2017.
