Several initiatives have made Brazil a worldwide reference in digitization, such as the computerization of the electoral system, the Federal Income Tax Return declaration software, as well as the innovation of the virtual service offered by the banking system to users. In the evaluation of the Minister of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications (MCTIC), Gilberto Kassab, Brazil is now preparing for the development of the Internet of Things (IoT) market.
"Now we are going to be pioneers in the field of Internet of Things," said Kassab on Monday in Brasilia (DF), recalling that MCTIC, through an agreement with the National Development Bank Economic and Social (BNDES) and a business consultancy, elaborates a plan for the development of the IoT market in the country. "Everything from the coming years will have a connection with the internet. The expectation is that this sector will move R$ 200 billion in Brazil's economy over the next ten years."
In addition, Kassab stressed that the use of the Internet in Brazil will gain momentum with the launch of the Geostationary Satellite for Defense and Strategic Communications (SGDC), which will be used to significantly improve the country's defense system in the border area, lead Broadband access to public facilities in the health and education areas, as well as ensuring access to the internet for people living in regions that are difficult to reach.
He also stressed that the legal course, promoted by the Internet Management Committee in Brazil (CGI.br) in partnership with the Institute of Technology and Society of Rio de Janeiro (ITS Rio), is important for the good management of the Internet.
MCTIC's Secretary of IT Policy, Maximiliano Martinhão, who coordinates the Internet Steering Committee in Brazil (CGI.br), said that the committee is an initiative that the country is proud of. "The CGI was created 20 years ago with a multi-sector structure that brought together government, academia, third sector and private sector to discuss the internet.
