The report of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) indicates that activities with Brazil were expanded in 2015, with new research partnerships and training activities. With headquarters in Laxenburg, Austria, IIASA has 22 member countries. The partnership with Brazil has begun in 2011.
The 2015 Scientific Report includes the main results of 562 research papers published during this year, written by 650 authors of 160 institutions from 43 countries. It demonstrates that new research projects are using systems analysis tools to find smarter ways to reduce deforestation in Brazil while increasing agricultural production, biofuels and livestock. Other projects focus on climate change and sustainable development.
The report also shows that IIASA works with Brazilian agencies to build the capacity in Systems Approaches for national and international policy issues, including support for Brazilian researchers to participate in the summer program of IIASA Young Scientists and the Postdoctoral Fellowship Program.
