INCOBRA - Increasing International Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation between Brazil and the European Union

“UrbanTec Brasil – Smart Solutions for Better Cities” is an international, practice oriented conference about the best planning strategies, management and funding models for smart, sustainable urban development.

From 27 – 29 September 2017 hundreds of experts and decision makers will meet in Rio de Janeiro to be part of UrbanTec Brasil 2017!

Under the heading „ Smart Solutions for Better Cities“, UrbanTec Brasil will celebrate its second event where decision makers for infrastructure projects from major and medium-sized cities (100,000 to 1,000,000 inhabitants) meet international investors and development banks with the aim of realizing sustainable urban development projects in Brazil and South America.

Located in the country with the fourth biggest urban population in the world, UrbanTec Brasil is the place to be for experts and decision makers who are into urban development to discover solutions for current and future urban challenges.

UrbanTec Brasil 2017 will address themes that deal with major problems of the legacy left by the current pattern of city planning in Brazil, in partciluar those problems related to the scenarios of transformation announced by the climate changes that tend to aggravate social, economic and environmental vulnerabilities. With this in mind, medium-sized and large cities were selected, as defined by population of 100,000 to 1,000,000 inhabitants, for the purpose of analyzing the potentialities and opportunities of investing in innovating and creative solutions in the following thematic areas:

• Resilience
• Green infrastructure
• Renewable energies
• Solid residues
• Sustainable social housing
• Urban Mobility
• Systems of urban information
• System of innovation and financing

SPECIAL FOCUS

UrbanTec Brasil draws attention to a huge opportunity for creating a more sustainable Brazil: investments in medium-sized and large cities, those between 100,000 to 1,000,000 people.

These new dynamic centers currently have the highest growth rates, while still maintaining good indexes of human development and quality of life. Since their development is still manageable at this stage of growth, more can be done with lower costs of implementation, if intervention is planned and urban demands anticipated.

And the right time is now. If middle cities manage to attract investment and engage in adequate urban planning processes to build sustainable mobility, energy and sanitation systems, twenty years from now Brazil’s urban centers will be much more livable places.
