On August 18th - 19th, 2016 Porto Digital Technology Park will hold the “V SIREE - V International Seminar on Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment - Circular Economy: A World Without Waste of Electrical & Electronic Equipment" in Recife-Pernambuco, Brazil.

The event aims to be a forum for discussion on the environmentally appropriate disposal and the good practices on e-waste management.

This year's program is focused onto increasing the discussion on systems with circular economy and work directly to solve the problem of electronic waste. It will count with leaders from the private sector, government officials and experts from Brazil, Argentina, Belgium and India.

The current industrial model of linear economy "take-make-dispose" has not proven sustainable. The main negative effects of this model are more apparent on environmental and social issues of the triple bottom line. Among the consequences of this unsustainable system, the aggravation of climate changes has gained global prominence.

In this context, the circular economy promotes the return of the materials to the production cycle. This new relationship / model has enormous potential to save natural resources, energy and create new local jobs. In a recent Nature article (March 23, 2016, Volume 531, Page 435), researcher Walter R. Stahel concluded that moving to a circular economy has the potential to reduce by 70% the emissions of greenhouse-gas and increase the workforce by 4% of each nation. The study was conducted in 7 European nations.

The implementation of a circular economy model inevitably demands a change towards how we treat the waste and how to manufacture our consumer goods. It is imperative the implementation of ecodesign on products, reverse logistics systems and environmentally appropriate waste treatment.

The event will also include a sponsors’ exhibition that will allow information exchange and networking.

Target audience: specialists, managers, academics, as well as professionals from the private sector; centres of research, development and innovation; government agencies and institutions of the third sector. The event should also be of interest to other professionals who seek to know the reality of other countries regarding environmental issues of electronic products.
